Pixelworks licenses image-quality technology for video ICs

Silicon Strategies

WILSONVILLE, Ore. - Video/data projector maker InFocus Systems Inc. here todayannounced that it has licensed image-quality technology to Pixelworks Inc., which will integrate the technology into its system-on-chip solutions for the visual display of broadband content.

The deal is in exchange for $2.4 million in cash and an ownership position in Pixelworks' Series D preferred stock.

Under this deal, Pixelworks, of Tualatin, Ore., has the right to include InFocus' patented Merlin technology in all of its ICs, which are used in a variety of multimedia devices including flat panel monitors, advanced televisions, and data/video projectors.

InFocus' Merlin U.S. patents describe InFocus' automatic phase and frequency correction for a wide variety of digital display applications. Merlin technology produces crisp, noiseless digital imagery without need for manual adjustment.
