DALLAS -- Texas Instruments Inc. is beating the marketing drums for its growth in sales of digital signal processors for Internet audio-enabled products. TI claimed that its monthly shipments of these DSPs surpassed 3 million in June, or more than any other programmable semiconductor maker.
TI also reported new design wins using the chips with Compaq Computer, Clarion, Olympus, Pioneer, and Pontis. And current customers Thomson Multimedia and Digisette ordered additional products.
TI isn't alone here. "Growth remains strong in today's digital audio hardware market, as consumers continue to spend on high-quality products," pointed out Mike Paxton, analyst at Cahners In-Stat Group. "TI remains on the leading edge of this market due to their consistent technological advances, key partnerships with industry leaders and a growing number of successful design-wins."
TI expects to see increasingly strong consumer demand for products with Internet audio capabilities such as cell phones, PDAs, Internet appliances, home stereos, and car audio players, said Chris Schairbaum, TI's Internet audio marketing manager.
