NORTHBROOK, Ill. The Interconnection Technology Research Institute (ITRI), a consortium of the circuit board industry, has fallen victim to the slumping economy. The ITRI board voted unanimously on Friday (Aug. 31) to cease funding of the group.
"Unfortunately in today's climate, member companies, and for that matter the industry in general, are justifiably concerned more with their own survival than collaborative research," said Jerry Siegmund, chief executive officer of ITRI.
Formed in 1994 by the IPC trade association, based here, ITRI conducted several studies of circuit board technology and worked closely with the National Electronics Manufacturing Initiative to create road maps that spanned several aspects of the electronics industry.
