DRESDEN, Germany -- Germany's Systemonic AG here today announced that it has acquired the radio-frequency (RF) chip set line and intellectual-property (IP) from Raytheon Co.'s Commercial Electronics Business (RCE) for an undisclosed price.
As part of the transaction, Raytheon of Lexington, Mass. has acquired an equity interest in Systemonic. An undisclosed number of RCE employees have joined Systemonic as well.
Systemonic has also acquired rights to RCE's 5-GHz RF chip set line, dubbed Tondelayo. This chip set will be sold with Systemonic's family of CMOS-based baseband chips, code-named HiperSonic.
Systemonic--a supplier of RF chips in Dresden--will also support the design-in and resale of Raytheon's power amplifier line. Additionally, Raytheon will receive a broad license to the current generation of RF technology for use in its defense business.
"This agreement furthers Raytheon's investment in wireless technology," said Jack Wohler, president of RCE. "We found a creative approach to harnessing a core technology of Raytheonwith the engineering and marketing capabilities of Systemonic."
