AUSTIN, Tex. -- Cirrus Logic Inc. here today announced it has designated Singapore's Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Pte. Ltd. as its preferred silicon foundry for mixed-signal ICs under a new multi-year manufacturing agreement.
Under the new foundry pact, Chartered will supply Cirrus with a range of processes, from 0.35-micron to 0.10-micron technologies in the future. Austin-based Cirrus said it plans to employ these processes in products aimed at consumer systems applications, including video, set-top boxes, and Internet gateway devices.
The companies did not release details about the terms of the foundry agreement or potential dollar value.
"This relationship gives Cirrus Logic a leading mixed-signal process platform from which all of our divisions can plan, develop, and deliver premier products to our customers today and tomorrow," said David D. French, president and CEO of the Austin-based fabless semiconductor company.
For Chartered, the agreement helps to line up additional production volumes for its wafer fabs, which in the current industry downturn have been running at less than 25% capacity. "This agreement goes beyond capacity -- it's about providing complete solutions that address specific needs of our customers," said Barry Waite, president and CEO at Chartered.
