SCHWALBACH, Germany -- Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has taken a liquid crystal display of 54-inch diagonal size to the CeBIT exhibition in Hannover, Germany, claiming it to be the largest LCD with thin-film-transistors at each pixel ever developed.
The 16:9 aspect ratio screen has a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels and is configured for high definition television.
Samsung claims to have improved the viewing angle to 170 degrees, the color reproduction and the response time of the 54-inch LCD in comparison with its previous 48-inch diagonal LCD demoed in October 2002. The new unit's display has a contrast ratio of 800:1 and a maximum brightness of 550 nits, Samsung said.
The five centimetre thick unit weighs 20-kilogram and consumes 350-W, the company said.
