TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Intel Corp. has decided to cancel forthcoming Developers Forums in Taipei and Beijing due to fears over the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) virus, according to a Reuters report.
"This decision has been made in response to the increasing concerns from developers and media attendees due to health alerts and travel advisories issued by various governments in reaction to the SARS virus," Intel is quoted as saying in a statement.
Intel Developer Forums were scheduled for April 14-15 in Taipei and April 17-18 in Beijing.
Intel is credited with saying it would change the format of the forum to a series of smaller briefings and that Craig Barrett, Intel's chief executive officer, who had been scheduled to give keynote speeches, would postpone his visit to the region.
Intel developer forums scheduled for Tokyo, Bangalore and Berlin, as well as a round of conferences set for the second half of the year, would proceed as scheduled, Reuter said Intel said.
