SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Power semiconductor maker Siliconix Inc., a subsidiary of Vishay Intertechnology Inc., made a net profit of $10.0 million on sales revenue of $97.8 million. Sales were slightly down from the $98.3 million recorded in the fourth quarter of 2002 but up 17 percent compared with the $83.6 million recorded in the same quarter a year before.
"We still see no signs of a major recovery in our primary strategic markets, portable computers and cellular telephones. In addition, we are continuing to observe a trend toward 'smart,' multi-functional cellular telephones and away from Personal Data Assistants and simpler cellular telephones," said King Owyang, president and chief executive officer, of Siliconix.
He went on to say that although the smart-phones that are replacing simpler phones and PDAs must be even more power efficient, which favors Siliconix products the company does not see any market improvement until the second half of this year at the earliest.
