TOKYO -- Fujitsu Ltd. said it suspended production at a semiconductor manufacturing plant in Iwate prefecture soon after a fairly large earthquake jolted northeastern Japan Monday, according to a Dow Jones report.
A Fujitsu spokesman said operations at the plant remain suspended due to damage to piping and other equipment and that the company expects to know in a day or two when it will be able to restart operations, the report said.
A task force has been chartered to decide when to restart operations at the plant or whether the company will need to transfer production to other domestic chip plants, a spokesman is reported as saying.
